Is A Tito's Moscow Mule The Way To Go?

Mark Zerba

I’ve tasted a lot of vodka’s in my day and I have to say that Tito’s is the best brand of vodka that I’ve encountered. It’s a better value than some of the other high end vodkas and I can’t tell the difference so I typically go with Tito’s when I need a vodka in my bar. This is why I create a Tito’s Moscow Mule when I’m craving a delicious Moscow Mule.

History

There’s always longer history to drinks than I expect. If you read about the history of the Moscow Mule you’ll find it to supposedly have been created in the 1940s. You can read more about the history here. To me, I learned about Moscow Mules in San Francisco in about 2010. I was born in the early 80’s and never heard of it until around 2010. This is when the Moscow Mule got trendy in the US bar scene within my lifetime. It’s hard to believe it’s been over 10 years since I started drinking them.

Ginger Beer

Another important ingredient to the Tito’s Moscow Mule is the choice of ginger beer. This may be a more critical decision that could impact the taste of your mule than making sure you choose the best brand of vodka. I’ve also tried quite a few brands of ginger beer in my day and I have to say there is only 2 that I recommend. That’s Reeds Ginger Beer or Bundaberg Ginger Beer!! These are hands down the best options and both have some delicious spice so make sure you use one of these.

Tito’s Moscow Mule

We’ve established that Tito’s is the best brand of vodka. We can plan to use Tito’s. We’ve also established that Reeds or Bundaberg ginger beer are the best brands of ginger beer so we’ll use one of these. My recommendation on a recipe to use is as follows:

  1. Tito’s American Vodka – 1.5 oz
  2. Fresh Squeezed Lime – Half a lime squeezed thoroughly
  3. Reeds Ginger Beer (or Bundaberg) – 4 oz

Glassware

The traditional glassware to serve a Tito’s Moscow Mule in or any Moscow Mule for that matter is a copper mug, but it doesn’t really matter. I choose a normal glass for my mule, doesn’t taste any different!

Hope to see you on our next journey! Cheers
